POSITION AVAILABLE: December 2009 or January 2010 REPORTS TO: Youth Program Coordinator HOURS: Flexible, at least 12 hours per week COMPENSATION: This position is unpaid. National Institute for Reproductive Health will help secure academic credit if applicable. SUMMARY: The Teen Outreach Reproductive CHallenge (TORCH) is a peer education program which trains youth to give workshops and presentations throughout New York City to their peers and healthcare providers on adolescent reproductive health/rights. TORCH is committed to youth empowerment, leadership development, and engaging youth as an active part of the pro-choice movement. We strive to do this by teaching youth issues related to reproductive health/rights and then offering opportunities for pro-choice activism. We have three projects specifically designed to engage youth: 1. The Peer Educator Project 2. The Adolescent Health Care Communication Project 3. The Adolescent Standardized Patient Project PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: TORCH is starting a new initiative and is seeking help to provide research and writing support to the Youth Program Coordinator on adolescent male involvement in sexual health programs. Research tasks will include assistance with a peer reviewed literature search. The intern will also offer general TORCH Program support as needed. QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience with research and access to journal database(s) • Ability to work independently and in collaboration • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Internet research • Must be organized and detail-oriented • Strong personal commitment to reproductive health TO APPLY: This is a great opportunity for aspiring educators, social workers, counselors, lawyers and healthcare providers.
