Q&A: College Jobs?
Question by (angry) Gay Guy: College Jobs?
Next year I am going off to college in the middle of nowhere, just over 500 miles away from home. The college I plan to attend is Michigan Technological University, nestled in a town of less than 7,000 people. There are only about 5500 students at the university. I’m going to need a job while I’m there to pay for gas to drive home for Christmas and summer and to have some pocket money. What are some good options that I could do? Because it’s so far north (one of the northernmost cities in Michigan), it’s VERY cold and VERY snowy in the winter (they average 210 inches), so outside things probably won’t work and the town plows everything regularly. What jobs could I do that I could cram into my schedule?

Just look for a job on campus or at a local market or something. your options are infinite. and by the way check your university’s page and see if they have job applications for on campus jobs. good luck.

Probably an on campus job would be your best bet.

I dont know much about where you where you’re going off to study, but you can always try and find an on campus. I know that I worked on my campus and it helped to pay the gas bills when I drove down home. This was in Florida where the weather is the opposite. You can also try Craigslist.com, I know that sometimes you can find some pretty good jobs. Good luck though, hope you find something good.

After my parents paid for my first year in college, I took care of ALL the bills after that by working as an orderly in a hospital. Because hospitals have to be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, this allows for a lot of flexibility on different shifts and days for you to work. As my school schedule changed, I was able to shift my work schedule around accordingly.
In my senior year, I was lucky enough to get a job in the on-campus hospital and that made everything REALLY convenient.
