Q&A: What jobs can a sixteen year old get that will benefit applying to college/job as an advertising major?
Question by James Y: What jobs can a sixteen year old get that will benefit applying to college/job as an advertising major?
I’m about to turn 16 years old later this March, and I was wondering, what jobs could I get that would ‘give me an edge’ in applying to college/future jobs in advertising? I’m guessing there aren’t many, if at all, internships or actual training for a 16 year old, but some insight on what jobs would be most helpful would be appreciated.
Thank you ~

It wouldn’t be a true internship but you could to to local tv and radio stations and ask the Advertising Manager if you could accompany their sales staff when they go out on business calls. 5 years ago you might have been able to apply as an assistant. Today, the recession has caused 40 year olds to apply for “assistant” positions.
When you finish college, the bad times will be over and you can get your career started. What you do at 16 won’t really affect any future employment.
