How many internships should I apply to?
Question by BG: How many internships should I apply to?
I have applied to 7 summer internships so far. I am waiting to apply to some that haven’t started accepting applications yet. I estimate that I will apply to 20 total. Is that a good amount? What are my chances? I have a 3.7 GPA, am a junior and am majoring in finance. I also have a management position at my current job, which I think ties into the leadership quality that the companies require in an intern. Any opinions? Am I on the right track? I look for finance internships at any major company I can think of, then apply if the location is feasible.

Your definitely doing a great job networking and your high GPA and management skills and experience will absolutely be your allies. I work for the NBA and often notice the number of open internships on many teams. If you are in a major city with an NBA, NFL, or MLB team you should apply for an internship with those organizations as well.

Apply to as many as you know about and have an address to send your resume’ to. Go for it! Flood the market with yourself! (lol) The same as you would with a job application. Use all your contacts and influence. Know somebody that works in Joe Smith’s office? Or down the hall in Joe’s assistant’s office? “Hey, what a coincidence!, I know this kid’s parents”! Good folks. Good solid demopublicans. (smile)
