Question by Ellie Marieee :) : What are some paid internships for NON-COLLEGE students?
I’m not enrolled at any college, because I am taking a year off to travel, work, and figure myself out. I’m looking for some internships that are for non college students, but PAID. Any suggestions? Who should I talk to about this stuff?

An “Internship” for a non-student is usually called an “Apprenticeship”.

While it’s customary for an apprentice to be paid, interns usually aren’t. In a very few fields which require you already be qualified at the next lower level, interns are paid at that level. For example, an intern physician is paid because he’s already earned the MD degree required to be a doctor.

Generally speaking, when an internship is “paid” you’re not talking about an internship any longer but instead it’s really an entry-level temporary position. (aka “practice job”)

One source of some pretty interesting “practice jobs” though is your government. Take a look at http://www.usajobs.gov and AmeriCorps/Vista http://www.americorps.gov/about/programs/vista.asp
