Question by dblshot: should one apply for a summer internship at a major finance group even though he has a low GPA?
He is from a very prestigious Ivy League undergrad university and had a great summer internship in this summer. He now wants to apply to Goldman Sachs as a summer intern but is worried that his grades will pull him down. There was no minimum GPA requirements for the internship but he still feels self conscious applying. what should i tell him?

Tell him to do it. The worst thing that could happen is that he get rejected. If he is rejected, just remind him that he’s not the only one.
The experience gain from the process will be good and will help him refine his skills for the future.

Dpesn’t hurt to apply, but someone with a low GPA isn’t likely to get hired.

Sometimes the school’s reputation will trump the GPA. After all, it’s easier to get a 4.0 in a no-name university. Unless they list the GPA as a requirement, I would leave it off of the resume and application. It will come up during the hiring process but the main thing is to get the job interview. Once in the interview he can explain what’s going on with the GPA, if they ask.
