Finance Intern

The Finance Department of Washington National Opera is seeking full-time and/or part-time Interns for the fall of our 2008-2009 season. The Finance Department is responsible for the day-to-day and long-term financial tasks and planning of the organization as a whole. Intern responsibilities will include providing assistance to the Finance and Administration Department in all areas including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, accounting, budget management, and research.

The Plácido Domingo Intern/Apprentice Program at Washington National Opera offers great opportunities to participate in the day-to-day activities of one of the nation’s leading opera companies. Benefits include a stipend, college credit, mentoring, complimentary tickets to performances, networking, and information sessions with department directors & surrounding performing arts organizations.

We are also accepting Intern/Apprentice applications for fall 2008 and spring 2009 in Artistic Administration, Development/Special Events, Education, Finance, Marketing & Audience Services, Production, and Public Relations. Apprenticeships are available in Costumes, Lighting, Stage Management and Technical. Apprenticeships require direct experience in the area and candidates should have obtained or be pursuing a degree in the prospective fields.

Production Intern

Washington National Opera is currently seeking a Production Intern for the fall of our 2008-2009 season. WNO’s Production Department manages budget items related to production (Chorus, Dancers, Supers, Dressers, Production Staff), oversees Chorus, Dancers, Supers, rehearsals for the master schedule and the daily rehearsal schedule, participates in planning current and future schedules, and participates in all union matters relating to the orchestra and AGMA.

Intern responsibilities will include supporting the Production staff in various duties including tracking of artists hours, researching union contracts and child work permits, assisting with auditions, and providing assistance on special projects including TV and radio broadcasts. Provide support to Production and Stage Management staff in the coordination of rehearsals and performances.

Executive Office Intern

The Executive Office Internship at Washington National Opera offers an excellent opportunity to gain insight into the overall operations of a world-class opera company and nonprofit organization. Primary responsibilities will include providing assistance to WNO’s Executive Director and Executive Offices in all areas, including development activities (utilizing Tessitura fundraising database), strategic initiatives, operations coordination, and the Plácido Domingo Intern/Apprentice Program. This intern will also have the opportunity to participate in coordinating meetings and functions involving WNO’s Board of Trustees, Chairman, President, and Executive Committee.
