Q&A: How come college guys cant be drafted into the military?

Question by Secular Libertarian: How come college guys cant be drafted into the military?
Back in the 60s when we were in the vietnam war, when we drafted many men into the military, there were alot of hippy guys protesting the war. They avoided the draft by going to college.

I can see the cons of drafting college guys in the army, because they’re trying to study then they’re forced to fight.

But if it’s a emergency I think even college guys should be able to be drafted.

Q&A: Do you wear a suit if you get an unpaid internship interview in accounting?

Question by ashlw: Do you wear a suit if you get an unpaid internship interview in accounting?
I have been wondering since it is UNPAID, do I still have to do wear the jacket on? Sending the thank you letter afterward??

I would definitely wear a jacket. Just wear whatever is acceptable to wear to work there. Try and take your internship seriously though, even though it’s unpaid it can get you in at the company and you can meet people in your field.

When applying to jobs do employers look at the college you went to or the courses you took during college?

Question by musicman: When applying to jobs do employers look at the college you went to or the courses you took during college?
For example:
Lets say someone took really good courses at their local college, but lets say another person went to Harvard and didn’t necessarily take hard courses. Do jobs look more into the college name (i.e. Harvard, Yale, Princeton) or the courses and prior training you’ve had?

The college first and formost. Going to Harvard period is more impressive than attending the University of Dayton honors college, for example. Harvard is Harvard regardless of the class dificulty. If the schools is Ivy League, chances are that there are no “easy” classes.

Is a college education still the most important indication of future success or income?

Question by scottodestructo: Is a college education still the most important indication of future success or income?
I was looking at the Forbes 400 richest and a lot didn’t go to college or finish. So many people don’t work in the area they study. On the other hand even now after being out of college for years I am tempted to take college classes in the area I work.

i think those are exceptional cases. having a college degree will definitely increase your chances for the job you want…and extra classes cant hurt either. Id say go for it. Especially if your company will pay for some of it, or reimburse you. Check into that. My sister didnt work in the field she majored in but she still has a good job- some things she learned are intertwined

Can you list an unpaid internship as “work experience”?

Question by i <3 pink: Can you list an unpaid internship as “work experience”?
I had an internship in a Congressional office for a few months, and I’m still in high school. I still needed to give a resume and all that to be accepted into the internship program, and I worked certain times during certain days of the week. I know this doesn’t really qualify as “volunteer/extracurricular activities,” so is it all right to list it as “work experience”?
I’m mainly asking for putting this on college applications.
