Is it hard to get jobs out of college without internships?

Question by 8: Is it hard to get jobs out of college without internships?
If I work a couple of part-time jobs after graduating will people think I’m lazy? I was applying to jobs in financial services but now I’m thinking of taking more classes part-time. I guess I am feeling a little lazy or like I don’t know what I want to do.

It depends on the industry, but finance is notorious for being tough to break into without internships (at least, you wouldn’t be able to get the type of jobs or salary your classmates with internships can get). It’s even tougher with a bad economy…especially with all the financial institutions downsizing or going under (Bear Stearns, anyone?).

You should focus on figuring out what you want to do (hint: if you feel too lazy to bother with finance, that’s not what you want to do). Take classes in different career paths that interest you, and see what happens.

What are some paid internships for NON-COLLEGE students?

Question by Ellie Marieee :) : What are some paid internships for NON-COLLEGE students?
I’m not enrolled at any college, because I am taking a year off to travel, work, and figure myself out. I’m looking for some internships that are for non college students, but PAID. Any suggestions? Who should I talk to about this stuff?

Answer by CoachT
An “Internship” for a non-student is usually called an “Apprenticeship”.

While it’s customary for an apprentice to be paid, interns usually aren’t. In a very few fields which require you already be qualified at the next lower level, interns are paid at that level. For example, an intern physician is paid because he’s already earned the MD degree required to be a doctor.

Generally speaking, when an internship is “paid” you’re not talking about an internship any longer but instead it’s really an entry-level temporary position. (aka “practice job”)

One source of some pretty interesting “practice jobs” though is your government. Take a look at http://www.usajobs.gov and AmeriCorps/Vista http://www.americorps.gov/about/programs/vista.asp

Is it hard for a college student getting a summer internship with Goldman Sachs if they’re not an ivy-leaguer?

Best answer:

Answer by Ryan M
Yes it is. You must not only come from a top tier school, but you must ALSO have a 3.7+ GPA. Even if you came from the ivy league, it would STILL be difficult.

Mr. xyz Not every job needs a degree every company does not have a criteria to give jobs for degree holders it is just to select a capable people with some talent to be trained and get their company take to a successful level
Degree is for nothing it just shows how much a man can handle or how much he is trained to handle people
