Paid Internships

Question by seekinganswers1: Where can I find internships in the fields of social services?
I’m a college junior and I’m looking for internship that deals with social services. I want to be a social worker and I want to get some experience while I’m still in school. I live in New York City and I prefer to find internships here. Is there any organizations I can get in touch with or websites that list internships? Any help with be appreciated. By the way, my college doesn’t offer or assist with internships.

Hi I’m not in the States but am a Social Worker here in OZ.

The way we operate here is that depending on your age, we do encourage voluntary work usually through Community, Charity or Religious agencies[non Government agencies].

Mainstream agencies [Government - Private] are reluctant to take on any one not formally studying the Social Sciences. [insurances e.t.c.]

I do supervise Social Work Students [Undergrad] in my work place.

Question by curiousity: What are some good jobs for college students?
I am a sophomore biology major in college in Atlanta, GA. I do not have a car and my schedule is hectic so I am having trouble finding a job. Is there any types of jobs that are looking for people to work mostly weekends?

Unfortunately, most jobs you will find are in retail. I know… I’m in the same boat. Retail jobs tend to be the most flexible, and they’re always needing people who can work on the weekends (gives the full-time employees a weekend off. Well, depends on where you work!).

I left a job where I was making /hr. It was a very good government job, for which I had gotten my first degree for. But it just wasn’t for me, and money isn’t going to keep me somewhere that I don’t want to be. So back to college to finish up an engineering degree! Now making /hr… I can’t tell you how overqualified I am! But most jobs that pay decent have normal business hours, for which our busy college schedules don’t work with…. ;-(

There are many to choose from. Here’s a list of jobs:

Teaching and Teacher’s Aide
(music teacher; elementary, middle; coach/PE)
Speech Pathologist
Counselor
Social Worker (Children, Youth & Families)
Librarian
Nurse
Physician’s Assistant
Dietician/Nutritionist
Physical Therapist
Art Therapist

Most of these professional positions require a masters degree. Teaching is the most flexible, with summers off, you can take classes and earn your masters while working. Nursing is also somewhat flexible since school nurses work the same hours as teachers.

Try getting a job at your college…I know my college offers pt time jobs for students. Most of the school’s staff are current students, (Aside from the teachers)

I have been offered several internships, but all are unpaid (I do not need to have an internship this semester). It is just not possible for me to be unpaid right now. What are the highest paying jobs for college students?
I have a part-time retail job, but it pays lower than the average, and I keep getting passed over for promotions that I am more than qualified for (friends of managers keep getting hired).
Trust me, I know jobs are hard to find. My dad has been unemployed for a year now. This is not my question.
