I’m a college student looking for Internships, should I include irrelevant work experience on resumes?
Question by erifonz: I’m a college student looking for Internships, should I include irrelevant work experience on resumes?
I’m a college student in New York City. I came here for the Internship opportunities, but as I set up my online profiles and re-do my resume, i’m not sure if I should include irrelevant work experience such as working at a drug store or office supply store. I haven’t really worked anywhere that is similar to the types of internships in journalism, writing, or publishing that i’m looking for now. Any thoughts?

Well, if you don’t HAVE any relevant work experience then all you have to include is the irrelevant stuff, so if you took that out what would you be left with? Include it. Once you have some relevant experience, you can start pruning the irrelevant ones, or divide your work experience into two sections on your resume so you can highlight the most relevant jobs without leaving off the less relevant ones.
