Q&A: college……………………….?

Question by Miguel OHH: college……………………….?
well, I’m a junior in high school and I’m planning to go to the art institute in Chicago, IL.
How do you think it would be easier to pay college?
i heard that some people take a year of general education and then their major, i don’t get that at all?
what is the advantage of doing that?

i would say apply for every scholarship you can, save, job etc.
the deal with general ed is that generally, college credits transfer between schools so you can go to a local community college your first year or two at a much cheaper rate. you also wouldnt need to pay for room and board as long as you stayed at home.

It depends on whether you’ll gain some valuable experience from it. It seems a little strange though since most modern day internships will at least pay minimum wage.

I have a few questions about college….
1. when u apply, do u apply for specific classes or are all the classes available to you?
2. if you are planning on becoming a brain surgeon, after you graduate, where do u go to school next?
3. do you write an essay to apply or have an interview? or both?
4. what does a college application look like?
5. if u apply for more than 1 college, do u have to write a essay or have an interview with all of them?

thank you so much! :)

1. You apply to the college. Once you get in, you can take whatever classes you want.
2. 4 years of college (any major and the premed classes), 4 years of medical school, 5 years of general surgical residency, 5 more years of fellowship in brain surgery. Then you can get a job.
3. Some colleges require that, others don’t.
4. You can easily find them online.
5. Yes, if they require that.

Internship?

Question by LTD: Internship?
I will be graduating college in May and obviously I should look for a job. Is internship necessary? I know it is a plus. I am asking this because some entry-level position requires some experience just about 1 to 2 years. In that case, it seems like that I cannot obtain that position if I do not have any experience including internship. So do I have to do internship?

Best answer:

Answer by Shannon H
It’s not absolutely necessary, but as you said, it is a plus–it gives you that on-the-job experience that a lot of employers ask for.

But here’s something to think about–you might be able to use some of your college skills as experience. For instance, if the job requires you to do market research and you’re a Marketing major, you can say that you’ve got some marketing experience. If you’re completing an essay-heavy curriculum, you might have MS Word experience that you can claim.

Also, if you have a lot of enthusiasm for the job and/or the company and some transferable experience, an employer may be willing to consider you for the position anyway. Go ahead and see if you can land an interview to show just how interested you are.

What do you think? Answer below!
