The Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging Wellness Intern will share in a variety of experiences in the development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of wellness programs for employees and older adults. Youth Program Intern – Research

POSITION AVAILABLE: December 2009 or January 2010 REPORTS TO: Youth Program Coordinator HOURS: Flexible, at least 12 hours per week COMPENSATION: This position is unpaid. National Institute for Reproductive Health will help secure academic credit if applicable. SUMMARY: The Teen Outreach Reproductive CHallenge (TORCH) is a peer education program which trains youth to give workshops and presentations throughout New York City to their peers and healthcare providers on adolescent reproductive health/rights. TORCH is committed to youth empowerment, leadership development, and engaging youth as an active part of the pro-choice movement. We strive to do this by teaching youth issues related to reproductive health/rights and then offering opportunities for pro-choice activism. We have three projects specifically designed to engage youth: 1. The Peer Educator Project 2. The Adolescent Health Care Communication Project 3. The Adolescent Standardized Patient Project PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: TORCH is starting a new initiative and is seeking help to provide research and writing support to the Youth Program Coordinator on adolescent male involvement in sexual health programs. Research tasks will include assistance with a peer reviewed literature search. The intern will also offer general TORCH Program support as needed. QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience with research and access to journal database(s) • Ability to work independently and in collaboration • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Internet research • Must be organized and detail-oriented • Strong personal commitment to reproductive health TO APPLY: This is a great opportunity for aspiring educators, social workers, counselors, lawyers and healthcare providers. Political Intern

POSITION AVAILABLE: January 2010 REPORTS TO: Political Director HOURS: 10-15 hours per week, flexible scheduling Monday-Friday between 10am and 6pm COMPENSATION: This position is unpaid. NARAL Pro-Choice New York will help secure academic credit if applicable. SUMMARY: NARAL Pro-Choice New York’s advocacy department works on the political, legislative and community levels to protect safe, legal abortion and to expand the full range of reproductive rights for all women. The Political Intern will primarily provide support around our efforts to prepare for the fall 2010 election. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Work with Political Director to prepare for the 2010 state- and federal-level elections in New York. • Research information on state and federal candidates. • Facilitate process of sending out candidate questionnaires, then contacting campaigns to follow up. • Maintain Excel database of information. • Assist staff in developing candidate education materials, including research and writing. • Help Community Organizer with ongoing advocacy and organizing activities, as necessary. Events/Development Intern

POSITION AVAILABLE: January 2010 REPORTS TO: Development Assistant HOURS: 10 – 16 hours per week, flexible scheduling Monday-Friday between 10:00am and 6:00pm COMPENSATION: This position is unpaid. NARAL Pro-Choice New York will help secure academic credit if applicable. SUMMARY: The only way NARAL Pro-Choice New York can do its work is with money! Development interns will gain insight into every aspect of the organization: assisting with event planning including house parties; preparing mail; developing donor communications around media; and researching the background and giving potential of major donors and foundation funders. Development is an exciting field for those looking for a career in non-profits – everyone needs to fundraise and this internship will help you establish highly marketable skills for the future. People who know how to fundraise get hired! PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES • The intern will assist with all aspects fundraising, including coordinating mailings, donor research and data base entry. • Assist with cultivation and fundraising events, including tracking RSVPs, creating invite and program materials and troubleshooting on the day of the event. • Assist the Development department with administrative tasks, such as filing, coordinating travel and online research. • Work with the finance and membership department on various fundraising campaigns and tracking the results.
