Q&A: Do employers prefer paid internships over unpaid?

Question by yahoo user: Do employers prefer paid internships over unpaid?
If so, why? Is it because paid internships tend to require higher qualifications?
Paid internships seem a bit difficult to find these days.

Employers prefer unpaid internships because they get someone to do the work for free. People will do it because they need the experience; employers will take it because it’s easy and cheap labor.

What college and career should i look in to?

Question by Tyler: What college and career should i look in to?
I get above a 4.0 as a freshman in high school. I am an excellent public speaker, I don’t get nervous talking in front of people. My favorite subjects are history, english, and spanish. I live in central Jersey and don’t want to go to a college more than 3 hours away. I want to go to a good college in any type of place except a city. I would love to be an anchorman for NBC but maybe there is a better career. Any tips for a good future?

Hmmm i’m from UK so i’m not sure about which college. However you sound like you’ll be perfect to complete a Public Relations degree or maybe an English degree.

How do you write a letter to an internship youve been accepted to to wait?

Question by Noneya.: How do you write a letter to an internship youve been accepted to to wait?
I have been accepted to do an internship, and at the interview they asked when i was avilable to begin. I told them that my advisor would tell me when, but when she wants me to do it is a semester away. How would i tell them that i am available to do it next semester when it seems they want you to do it right away. I dont know how to word it.

Good luck with that! Your position may not be held and most likely will be given to someone else. All you can do is try. If they don’t wait then keep in mind that it wasn’t meant to be and God will open another door for you.

When should I start looking for internships for Mechanical Engineering?

Question by Nick S: When should I start looking for internships for Mechanical Engineering?
I will be heading into my sophomore year in college this fall and was just curious when employers and companies start looking for interns. I’ve heard that your first two years of college to just focus on your GPA and get your feet wet and then you get an internship either your junior year or senior year.

Start looking for them as soon as possible. I didn’t have any internships while in school (worked summer jobs that were unrelated to engineering) and I am having difficulty finding employment, especially in this economy. If you can manage a 3.5 when you graduate, combined with a few internships, you’ll probably be set.
