Membership Intern – Winter

Membership Intern Winter 2009 (January /February – March/April) Apply Immediately o Application Deadline: December 1 o You should receive notification by December 15 Genocide Intervention Network (GI-NET) is changing the way the United States and the international community responds to the worlds worst crime by empowering individuals and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide. GI-NET’s aim is to build the first permanent anti-genocide constituency. Interns receive $70 per month in SmartBenefits to cover local transportation costs. Lectures, panel discussions and other events are also frequently made available through allied organizations in the Darfur and anti-genocide movements. GI-NET seeks a highly motivated and independent college student or recent graduate to assist the staff with membership initiatives. Start and end dates can be negotiated. The Membership Intern will assist in recruiting, servicing, and mobilizing GI-Net’s membership to actively participate in its Darfur-related programs. The intern will also assist in the consolidation of GI-Net’s permanent constituency – a crucial element of GI-Net’s long-term mission. Major Responsibilities: • Work on GI-Net’s Ask The Candidates campaign which aims to make Darfur a priority in the presidential race • Correspond with GI-Net members (e.g. sending support materials for their events, explaining our policy/legislative agenda) • Assist in the writing of a bi-weekly newsletter and periodic action alerts • Assist in the creation of membership informational materials

Education Intern – Winter

Education Intern Winter 2009 (January /February – March/April) Apply Immediately o Application Deadline: December 1 o You should receive notification by December 15 Genocide Intervention Network (GI-NET) is changing the way the United States and the international community responds to the worlds worst crime by empowering individuals and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide. GI-NET’s aim is to build the first permanent anti-genocide constituency. GI-NET seeks a highly motivated and independent college student or recent graduate to assist the staff with education initiatives. Start and end dates can be negotiated. The Education Intern will be working with the Education Director and Education Associate to synthesize news on a number of armed conflicts around the world where civilians are being targeted by mass atrocities on a disproportionately large scale. Major Responsibilities • Drafting daily news memos that synthesize media reportings on areas of concern. The news memos will be used to draft the Genocide Monitor, a bi-weekly publication. • Long-term research projects on various armed conflicts where civilians are being targeted on a disproportionately large scale • Coordinating speaking engagements from requests that GI-Net gets from members • Editing and updating content for GI-Net’s Education website • Editing memoranda and documents that the Education Associate produces Interns receive $70 per month in SmartBenefits to cover local transportation costs. Development Intern – Winter

Development Intern Winter 2009 (January /February – March/April) Apply Immediately o Application Deadline: December 1 o You should receive notification by December 15 Genocide Intervention Network (GI-NET) is changing the way the United States and the international community respond to the worlds worst crime by empowering individuals and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide. GI-NET’s aim is to build the first permanent anti-genocide constituency. GI-NET seeks a highly motivated and independent college student or recent graduate to assist the staff with development/fundraising initiatives. Start and end dates can be negotiated. The Development Intern will work with the Development Director and Development Associate to establish and implement fundraising systems related to both foundation and grassroots financial support. Major Responsibilities • Seeking out, implementing, and managing development campaigns Advising our grassroots fundraisers and providing them with material support • Developing and updating material for current and future donors (letters, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, brochures, etc.) • Managing foundation grant cycle information, including the development of our contributor relationship management (CRM) software system • Processing donations and managing donor correspondence • Detailing and managing donor databases • Updating content on the website related to fundraising appeals Other duties may be assigned throughout the internship depending on department needs and priorities. Communications/Media Relations Intern

The Communications/Media Relations Intern will work with the Director of Communications to promote campaigns and materials to the media and general public. Major Responsibilities • Copyediting documents and web pages for the organization • Research key news and opinion leaders in the media • Edit op-eds written by GI-Net staff and members for placement in various print media • Draft and edit press releases for the organization

Communications/Information Technology Intern – Winter

Communications/Information Technology Intern Winter 2009 (January /February – March/April) Apply Immediately o Application Deadline: December 1 o You should receive notification by December 15 Genocide Intervention Network (GI-NET) is changing the way the United States and the international community responds to the worlds worst crime by empowering individuals and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide. GI-NET’s aim is to build the first permanent anti-genocide constituency. GI-NET seeks a highly motivated and independent college student or recent graduate to assist the staff with communications and information technology initiatives. Start and end dates can be negotiated. Communications/Information Technology Intern will work with the Communications Director and the Information Technology Associate to develop and implement innovative online campaigns to support GI-Nets initiatives. In particular, the intern will have the opportunity to put ideas into action ¬- raising money for peacekeeping in Darfur; mobilizing a diverse constituency in supporting anti-genocide legislation; and educating the public about the need for a new response to genocide. Major Responsibilities: • Collaborating on action alerts and a member newsletter/blog with the public relations and advocacy teams • Developing campaign websites from the ground up; including dynamic coding, site architecture, and design • Evaluating the current GI-Net website through metrics, as well as developing methods for making it more effective, accessible, and useful • Helping to integrate online tools and modules for fundraising, advocacy, and education, including CMS, CRM, e-mail, congressional contact and donations processing systems • Innovating new methods for member support and engagement, especially involving social networking such as MySpace, Facebook, LiveJournal, and social media such as YouTube, Flickr, and Del.icio.us • Reaching out to online opinion-makers such as bloggers and podcasters and staying current with online discussion around anti-genocide and related issues • Reading and staying up-to-date on other Darfur and anti-genocide organizations projects; including blogs and newsletters, and suggesting methods for collaboration when possible Interns receive $70 per month in SmartBenefits to cover local transportation costs.
