Question by lsparamus: How come the majority of internships that lead to employment are taken by non-americans?
I just did a report for my boss. 98% of internships that lead to full time employment are foreigners. Out of 800 current applicants 85 percent are foreign? Why do you think that is?

How important are college rankings for jobs? (UCR vs. UCI)?

Question by valetudo34: How important are college rankings for jobs? (UCR vs. UCI)?
I am planning to transfer to UCR’s business admin program or UCI’s business economics program. Business is what I want to work in, but the thing that is holding me back from deciding is the rankings. Although I don’t want to become an econ major, I feel that UCI’s higher ranks will help me land a job easier after graduation.

How important are college rankings for jobs? Does anybody know what the rankings for UCR’s business admin program is?

Partially.

If you fail in Harvard and pass in the local community college, it’s highly likely the community college version of you would get the job.

Recognize that while school name and reputation can count for some of the jobs out there, oftentimes it’s your presence, your display, and grasp of a topic and job that will get you the position. Oftentimes, this is what really happens at schools with better reputations – they prepare you for encounters better! It’s not necessarily what you know – you can learn equal amounts at both institutions, it’s a question of your drive to learn and your presentation and soft skills when communicating with the interviewers. A good resume is key, too. Objective oriented, with a strong solver mentality (I increased research grants of a research project by 100% or similar) rather than general statements of skill (I can write research grants).
