I think the best way to get an internships is through the university’s system. Some universities have career centers. Some of them have career fairs every semester. You can also find an internship position via one of your professors. It is easier to find an internship this way and it is more guaranteed to receive a positive answer this way. Of course you can send your resume online, or call them by yourself but there is a little chance to get a good response this way.

Internships for rising college freshman?

Question by eirikir: Internships for rising college freshman?
I’m looking for internships available to rising college freshman – I’m graduating this year and starting college next year – in virtually any field, since I’m not sure what I want to do: computer science, business, law, whatever. I live in Houston and have a pretty good resume, replete with work experience, school activities, and straight As. Even a site to point me in the right direction would be much appreciated. Thanks!

in general, it is hard to get an internship without a direction you’re interested in. if you’re really curious, you should check out MonsterTrak. they specialize in internships & entry-level positions. you can sort by areas that you’re intrested in and also by your location. they may be a good option. otherwise, check out the career services websites at colleges in your area. that is what they’re there for.

Is it unusual to pursue internships after college/graduate school?

To gain work experience you might not already have?

I don’t think it is. I graduated college and I’m in an internship that isn’t any credit for school, but is an experience in another country. I’m teaching English. Not only am I teaching English but I’m learning the language of the country I’m in, Israel. I chose it hoping that maybe I could get an experience of another culture, feel what it’s like to live in another country, travel a bit, and help others and myself. I’m attempting to take the year off before I commit to graduate school. And if I do apply for any jobs, hopefully I have some edge over others. I’ve got quite a bit to talk about.. it’s a bit of culture shock and the way things are done here is very different from in the US. Pursue whatever is going to help you and give you all the more experience that you can.

Physics and biology – you teach.
Choose engineering – this field is in demand – any type of engineering.
You will never lack a job.
Top right now are bio-medical engineering (look up the details – I believe it has to do with genetics).
Chemical Engineering (which will land you just about any high level engineering job).
Salaries for these two start at 70K a year (only with a 4 year degree).
Google – top paying engineering 4 year degrees.
If you like math and science, the world will be yours – truly yours.
Enjoy a comfortable life.
