I was looking to stay for the summer in new york city, and was wondering if there are any paid internships available for high school students. I am not that concerned about the money, as long as i would have a place to stay. I get good grades in school and am interested in science and technology, but i would be willing to do an internship that does not focus on science and technology.

Sorry man, but I’m looking for the same thing I don’t think we are going to find one. All of them have passed the application deadline and it’ll be insanely hard to send an app now and get accepted to some place you want to go.

Does anyone know of any advertising agencies that take interns that have already graduated from school? I really want to get into advertising and I know that its the best, and almost the only way into the industry. I just moved to New York City and am enthusiastic about this. I’ve already gone out and asked several companies but I want to see if anybody knows of any places that definitely have internship programs for college grads.

I see ads every day seeking marketing or advertising “interns” on Craigslist ( http://newyork.craigslist.org/mar/ ).

Be aware that many (perhaps most) of these opportunities are just looking for free or low-wage employees, and may not provide useful work experience or references. Sometimes, the “agency” turns out to be one guy working from home.

Honestly, the best 2 ways to get an internship is to check the employment office at your school. They may have postings for companies which are looking for internships OR you can ask a company that you know of directly by speaking to someone in their human resources dept.

My friend, the only thing I would recommend, and this is a long shot, will be the Summer Youth Employment Program that the city provides to teenagers in the summer.

Now, the reason I said its a long shot, is because you have to be a resident of New York City in order to apply to SYEP and the pay is not good either, the program pays minimum wage. Also, they are very few spots to apply for so if you apply, you most likely will get a job or you will get rejected, hey its funded by the city and the program is the first to get the budget cuts every year.

The other alternative, will be pounding the pavement of New York City and apply to every store in the city. At least you will be able to get good job with a higher wage.

The best way to find one is through your school. Do not find one on Craigs List.

Expect to be worked long hours, treated like crap, and be patient.

I was a Production Assistant and worked my way up. It is a crazy business. Look into real production companies that either produce big tv shows or commercials. Once there show more interest in what people do.

If you find a internship at Viacom or MTV… just so you know you could end up in accounting or in department that has nothing to do with production…. just an FYI.
