I wanted to take a year off from college, but I still wanted to learn something.
I want to be an illustrator when I get older so I was wondering if there are any art organizations, internships, or art communities that I could work at/be a part of?

go to the colleges or local community colleges that offer these course. you don’t have to enroll in them take a walk through, you will see so many postings offering what you are trying to find.

i been looking in to internships and the only paid one i found was for the CIA. apparently the damn FBI does not even pay you. how do they expect you to survive on the other side of the country for 3+ months with no money if you not rich?

they expect that you or your parents support you and that you only are at the intern to gain experience needed for future jobs, and not the money. i know how you feel. my sister is in the same boat you are in. our parents have to give her money to rent an apartment, but maybe you should ask if they can atleast get you an apartment or give you a discount for the apartment. you could also get a side job at a local mall or get a secretary job at a small law firm or hospital, but it may be a lot of work…. =/

I don’t know of any that do anymore.
they are losing too much money from kids stealing music.
most are letting people go right now,

in general, it is hard to get an internship without a direction you’re interested in. if you’re really curious, you should check out MonsterTrak. they specialize in internships & entry-level positions. you can sort by areas that you’re intrested in and also by your location. they may be a good option. otherwise, check out the career services websites at colleges in your area. that is what they’re there for.
