I’m hopefully starting college in the fall and I plan on working part time. I’m just curious as to what type of office jobs are available for people w/o a degree. I kind of don’t want to work in retail and I really don’t want to work in fast food. So what could I possibly get? For example, would I be able to work as a receptionist or even a bank teller (yes I know that’s not really an “office job”)? Would being in college give me an edge?

A bank teller is a great job to have in college. Also check working on the campus as a desk assistant. Pay is shitty, but you basically get to work on homework and get paid. Just so you’re aware, being college is a negative thing for non-campus employers because your schedule is impeded by classes and homework and college students are more likely to call in “sick” if they have a test the next day.

I have studied and worked abroad and have always been interested in working in a college/university study abroad office. I never see these jobs posted on higher education websites and wonder how to get my foot in the door. What are the chances for getting a job in this department and are there opportunities for advancement?
My degree is in history with a tourism minor.

hmm, i would think going back to your alma mater and see if they would like an alumnus to work in their study abroad office…

also, sometimes websites may not be fully updated, so try calling the offices of several universities you’re interested in working at and see if they have any openings! Being multilingual may be an asset to landing the job too.
